He glared at me, grumbling as if he were deeply ashamed of having been reprimanded by the captain.  “Consider it an honor. How could someone like you get a chance to be in the company of a hero? Researching necromancy in a peaceful world built on sacrifice, what a luxury to have. And in the Holy Empire, too…” Could it be that the reason I got so many bumps and bruises from being carried out of prison wasn’t because they were in a rush, but because of Kalterik’s hostility towards me? It was a reasonable suspicion to have. Even now, I almost toppled over, barely holding on to a tree just to keep my balance. Kalterik, thinking once again that he was being ignored, kept talking. About the history of the empire, blah, blah, and so on.  Suddenly, Harenir turned to us again....

I have to make sure you don’t run off on your own, right?” When Harenir waved his hand around a little, the red cord swayed gently in the air with it, and I could feel the vibration directly on my neck. It seemed like he could make the ‘cord’ appear at will whenever he wanted to, and it could be used as a means to rein me in. “If you act against my will, I’ll activate the device around your neck, and your head will go bang—and explode. I would be careful about what I do if I were you.
